Dear ILES Blue Wave Families:

 

My name is Michael Bryant, Principal of Inter-Lakes Elementary School, and I’d like to welcome you to another amazing and exciting year at ILES!  I am excited for the return of our faculty and learners, and can’t wait for opening day on Tuesday, September 7, 2021. I am sure you have many questions about this upcoming school year as we are still very much living in a COVID 19 influenced world.  On August 24, 2021, the Inter-Lakes School Board will finalize the re-opening plan and our risk mitigation strategies for the start of school.  After that meeting, more detailed communication will be sent that includes the specifics of getting back to school.  In the meantime, please know that you can reach out to me at any time with questions or concerns.  I feel very fortunate and privileged to be part of the Inter-Lakes community, as we work to inspire and sustain learning and achievement by providing: quality teaching practices, learner-centered instruction, and access to resources that provide outstanding educational opportunities for our students.  It will take a collaborative effort from all stakeholders as we prepare ourselves to support all of our Blue Wave learners. 

 

Over the next few weeks, as you and your family continue to enjoy the summer break, I hope you will take some time to review this letter in preparation for the 2021-2022 school year.  Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you have any questions or concerns related to your child’s education.

Bus Routes:  Attached to this communication is the 2021-22 transportation form. This is a time sensitive document that will shape our bus routes for this year.  If you plan to utilize the bus, you must fill out this form and return it (physically or electronically) to the office of our assistant superintendent, Trish Temperino. Forms can be emailed to holly.buker@interlakes.org or christine.taggett@interlakes.org

 

The 2021-2022 bus routes will be published on the district website under “Family Resources” and “District Quick Links”.  Students who do not arrive by bus should plan to arrive no earlier than 8:15 A.M.  Please note that we will continue to use the traffic pattern around the school that was developed last year.  Parents dropping off students should do so in the front of the building.  Students riding the bus will be dropped off in the back or playground side of the building.  All students will report directly to their classrooms upon their arrival through multiple access doors.  Staff supervision of these processes will make for smoother transitions.

 

Arrivals / Drop Off / Bus: Students should arrive at school between 8:15 A.M. and 8:30 A.M.  8:30 A.M. is the official start to our school day.  Students arriving after 8:30 A.M. will be considered tardy.


Departure / Pick up / Bus: School ends at 2:55 P.M. Students who are picked up by parents will be dismissed out the front of the school.  Students who take the bus will be dismissed to the backside/playground side bus by bus. 

 

Breakfast and Hot Lunch will be available on the first day of school.  The breakfast and lunch program is independently operated by Café Services.  A monthly lunch and breakfast menu is emailed home at the    beginning of each month.  Menus are also available through the school website.  Due to a federal grant from the National School Lunch Program, ALL ILES students are eligible to receive free breakfast and lunch for the 2021-2022 school year.  *Please note: students requesting JUST milk at lunch will be charged $0.65.*  Even with free meals for our school district in 2021-2022, it is still important to submit a free/reduced price meal application.  Completing an application takes less than 10 minutes and application information remains private and confidential. Only one application per household is needed.  Filling out the school meal application may help provide things like funding for school budgets and enrichment programs.

Weekly Communication: To enhance communication efforts, weekly newsletters will be emailed to all families through ALMA.  We will use Alma to also provide other important updates and bulletins for students and families.  

 

Lunch: Lunch for students will be in the lunchroom to start the school year.  Students should clean their space before and after eating.  If levels of transmission increase, we will evaluate the need to move lunches to the classroom.  The sharing of food is not permitted.

 

Mitigation Recommendations:

Mitigation recommendations are based on current data and trends. It should be noted that if data and trends indicate a need to increase mitigation efforts, then the School District will respond accordingly. This may need to be done quickly and without time for School Board action; if required the Superintendent has the authority to make such adjustments.  More information to come after the August 24th School Board meeting.

 

Use of the Outdoors: Staff will be using the outdoors whenever possible. Teachers will notify the Main Office when they are going outside and when they have returned. 

 

Please remember that it’s important that we maintain open lines of communication, that we assume positive intentions, and that we act as a team working to better our children’s lives.  The school can’t do it alone.  Parents can’t do it alone.  Students can’t do it alone.  It will take a combined effort of dedicated students, parents, educators, and community members to meet this important goal of educating each and every student in a way that inspires excellence and creates multiple pathways of success.  I look forward to working with all of you as we strive to make this our priority for every learner at ILES.

 

Please know that more information will continue to follow before the first day of school.  This information will come in the forms of written communication in Alma and displayed on the ILES website.
