Career Partnerships
What do you want to do when you leave school? Are you thinking of getting a job or going to college? The Greater Meredith Career Program can help you. We offer job shadows or internships so that students can gain experience in a career field to see if it is what they would like to do. If that career field is not for them they may try another job field as they discover their strengths and weaknesses as they plan for life after school. This is the beauty of our program as it lets our students experiment with different career options before committing to a college course or employment in a field. Credits are available for an internship; however they are usually unpaid positions. Students must be passing all grades in order to participate in the program.
What is the Career Partnership Program?
The Career Partnership Program is a partnership between The Greater Meredith Program (www.greatermeredithprogram.com) and the Inter-Lakes School District. The Greater Meredith Program (GMP) is a nonprofit community economic development organization seeking to enhance economic vitality, historical and cultural heritage, and town-wide beautification. The Career Partnership Program is based in the School Guidance department at the Inter-Lakes Middle/High School. Career Partnership Program Director Melisa Moore, assists the students in obtaining job shadows and internships in the local business community. Melisa Moore also liaises between the community and the school to bring guest speakers into the classroom and to organize student volunteers within the community. It is a beneficial program for both parties and forms a strong networking system between the students and the outside world.
Our program continues to seek private donations and funding.
Students are invited to visit Melisa Moore and are encouraged to participate in the program through the following initiatives:

Job Shadows Students visit a business, shadowing a professional for a few hours or half day. Students observe a career of interest and are able to ask questions about the training, skills and tasks associated with that career. Students are responsible for their own transportation and are expected to dress professionally. |

Internships Juniors and Seniors are invited to schedule an internship at a local business of interest. An internship has a set schedule each week and students participate in various functions within the business. Students are able to earn high school credit, once all the requirements have been met. Students are responsible for their own transportation and are expected to dress professionally. |

One Day Job Fair The CPP holds a one-day Job Fair each April as a courtesy to our businesses and students to obtain summer employment. However, the CPP does not acquire employment at any other time throughout the school year for our students. Periodically, a job will be posted and the student will be responsible for contacting the business site to interview. The program focuses on career experiences to guide our students to choose an industry that they are interested in. |

Speaker’s Bureau The Career Partnership Program connects classroom teachers with speakers who are directly related to the subject being taught. Speakers can enhance a student’s learning by giving a “real-world” connection and possible career path for the subject area. Community Service Students are encouraged to participate in various forms of community service, short and/or long-term. The Career Partnership Program can help students find local nonprofits and areas for community service. Students are responsible for their own transportation. |
