merrovista2018I have just returned from spending three days and two nights with seventy-one Inter-Lakes and ten Sandwich Central School students at Camp Merrowvista. Over the past twenty-one years the annual trip to Merrowvista has become a time honored tradition. Over that time, nearly two thousand students have brought memories back from their three day experience.
The theme of three days is TC2 which stands for trust, teamwork, cooperation, and communication. Students are organized in activity groups of ten or eleven students and work through a series of activities during the three days to build TC2. All of the activities are approached through the lens of challenge by choice. Students are encouraged to work in their growth zone, but their participation in all the activities is by their choice. Activities include raft building, outdoor survival, hiking, team challenges, climbing on a variety of elements, and much more.

roboticsWith funding from the New Hampshire Department of Education for Robotics Education the Inter-Lakes Middle Tier started the first after-school robotics program. On May 12, 2018 New Hampshire schools competed in the First Lego League Robotics Event -- The Hydrodynamic Challenge.
The teams had to make a presentation on a real world water problem and present their research to a panel of judges as well as design and program a robot to solve challenges on a field mat.  The 7th Grade team placed third!

We will once again be holding end of the year celebrations in grades six and eight. On Wednesday, June 20, 2018 we will be honoring the sixth grade students as they depart Inter-Lakes Elementary School. The ceremony will commence at 6:00 p.m. in the Inter-Lakes Elementary School Gymnasium. Students will be presented with portfolios that contain memories, awards, and recognition. The ceremony will be followed by light refreshments and an opportunity for the students to share the contents of their portfolios with friends and relatives.
Also on Wednesday, June 20, 2018, there will be a ceremony to recognize eighth grade students as they make the final step of their journey to high school.

As we look forward to summer, I wanted to make you aware of a number of summer opportunities that have come across my desk for students. Shooter’s Gold is a week long basketball camp that is held right at Inter-Lakes Elementary School. Shooter’s Gold will be held in the Inter-Lakes Elementary School Gymnasium July 9th-12h. The session for students entering grades 5-8 will be held in the from 8:00 a.m.to 1:00 p.m. Brochures about the camp are available at school or for more information go to www.hogancamps.com.
The Huot Technical Center is hosting several opportunities for students this summer. The HTC Summer Arts & Technology Camp is one of the opportunities open to students in grades 7-8 during the week of July 9th- 13th. It provides a week long, hands-on opportunity for students interested in learning about a variety of career options including engineering, media arts, culinary arts, bio-technology, and computer programming. Huot will also be sponsoring a Girl Technology Camp. This three day camp will be held June 27h to June 29th providing an immersive experience in all things “tech”.
