Welcome to Mrs. Browher's Class!

Preamble to the Constitution

We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

These are my beliefs.

I believe all children can learn.

I believe that students learn best when their individual learning styles are given consideration in the classroom.

I believe that one of my jobs as a teacher is to gently push a student a bit further than she or he is willing to go.

I believe that learning needs to be relevant to a student—today, right here, and right now.

I will strive to discover and assess my students’ individual
interests, readiness  levels, and learning styles before beginning a unit of study.

Student Led Conferences:

Students will formally share their learning and their portfolios with parents and teacher twice during the school year. The student led parent and teacher conferences are scheduled in October. At these fall meetings we set academic and personal goals. This conference is very important to the student’s school year as these goals lay the foundational path for each individual’s progress. During the winter conferences scheduled for February students will again lead their parents and teacher through their learning using their portfolio as a guide. At the winter conference students revisit their individual goals looking for evidence in the portfolio or through conversation that shows that the goals have been met, should be extended, or altered to be suitable for the remainder of the year. Students are very aware of their own learning. Student led conferences give the student ownership and responsibility for his/her own education.

(**Note: Fifth grade parents are asked to call Mrs. Debbie Doten at the elementary school office at 279-7968 between 7AM and 11:00 AM, or after 11:30 AM at the high school at 279-5312 to set up their child’s conference. Appointments run about 30 minutes in length. Please phone the office one to two weeks in advance of the conference dates to receive the best availability. Meeting times will also be possible before or after school on non-conference days for those needing an alternative date and time.  Please contact me if the scheduled conference dates do not fit into your own schedules so that I can arrange a time that is convenient for you and your child. Although the conferences require some planning and rearranging of work schedules I’m sure you will agree that the session is very valuable to your child. I have been in awe at how insightful students are about their learning styles, strengths, weakness, and what each plans to do to accomplish their goals.)

Reading Assignment:

Each student is asked to read nightly for 20- 30 minutes a day for a minimum of four nights a week. Parents are requested to sign their initials in the “Assignment Notebook” indicating that the reading has been accomplished. Each student has the opportunity to receive a reward for reading at the end of the month if his/her book is signed on a regular basis. Rewards include a choice of a Pizza Hut certificate or a School Store certificate.  Thank you for verifying the reading at home.
