Why 21st century* learning?
The volume of information and pace of change in today's world has impacted the requirements of the workplace and post secondary education. Today’s students, in preparing for beyond high school, need to be able to properly identify and analyze new information, think critically, and communicate effectively in order to problem solve and be successful. Students need access to information in order to develop and practice these skills.
District Vision Statement
The Inter-Lakes School District, in partnership with its communities, will provide outstanding educational opportunities and resources for all students to achieve academic excellence in order to reach their highest potential and to succeed as responsible, contributing citizens in a global society.
District Mission Statement
Is to inspire and sustain learning and achievement by providing:

Technology Vision, Value and Mission
Technology Vision
To embrace a culture that fully integrates 21st Century learning and digital literacy** within all areas of curriculum.
Technology Value
We will shift to a student centered instructional model where students become self-reliant learners capable of personalizing their own education utilizing 21st Century learning. Students will have ubiquitous access to appropriate technological resources. Staff will act as instructional facilitators, mentors and coaches learning from students as much as students learn from staff.
Technology Mission
To provide 21st Century learning opportunities by combining appropriate instructional methodologies, a student-centric learning model, and a technology rich environment; we will help staff and students realize their full potential.
District Technology Committee
Membership
The District Technology Committee (DTC) will seek representation from all four schools and the Humiston building. Any board member, administrator, teacher, student, staff, parent, or community member is welcome to attend and contribute. The DTC should be chaired by a person who is aware of district priorities, initiatives, can affect change, and keep the committee on task.
Purpose
-
addresses and makes recommendations to the superintendent on all district-wide strategic planning and policy issues related to information technologies, instructional technologies, and student support technologies.
-
Creates and monitors implementation of a formal, District Technology Plan that establishes long-term IT and instructional technology goals and priorities

About this document
In keeping with the spirit of modeling 21st century skills, this document was developed in collaboration with various shareholders of the district. This tech plan will be reviewed periodically but no less than annually by the district tech committee, to ensure the plan aligns with district goals and is used to steer technology decision making.
